Frequently asked questions

Here you can find answers to frequently asked questions about the Corona test.

ODER

How does the rapid antigen test work?

First, we will take a swab. In the Corona-Teststation Mahlsdorf at Porta you can choose if you want the swab to be taken from your deeper or shallow nasal or your throat cavity. Then, the sample is analysed by our medically trained staff. Within 20 minutes, you will receive the result via email. For more information, check the following link: Process.

How reliable and safe is the rapid antigen test?

We utilize the SARS-CoV-2 Rapid antigen test from the leading manufacturer Roche. It is said to be the safest test method due to its sensitivity rate of 96,52% and specificity rate of 99,68%. The test presents a usable solution for anyone who’s suspected of having an infection with the virus. Please note, a low virus load can falsify the result of the test if the suspected infection happened shortly before the testing. In that case, a negative result might not eliminate the possibility of an infection.

How do I receive the result?

We provide you with the result via email. Additionally, you can look up the result through the provided QR code. It will direct you to the result.

Which documents do I need to provide?

In order to go through with the testing procedure, an identification document is required. You can show us your ID, passport or driving license.

Do I need to be early?

Please arrive on time. Due to the online booking of appointments, it is not necessary to be early.

How much is the test and how do I pay for it?

People with a German address or whose usual domicile is in Germany can take the so-called citizen test, which is a rapid antigen test, free of charge once per day.

From what age onwards can I get tested?

Generally speaking, infants are eligible for testing. However, for children and adolescents under the age of 16, parents must book, pay and be present for the appointment. For minors over 16 years, instead of the presence of the parents a declaration of consent is sufficient. For larger families, we advise to plan a little more time to ensure a smooth process.

What happens if my result is positive?

In case of a positive test result, you are required to start quarantining immediately. Furthermore, we are required to report the incident to the responsible health authority, which will contact you eventually to define next steps. The health authority will also ask you for a list of your most recent contacts. Therefore, we advise preparing such a list to facilitate their work. Please comply with the following quarantine requirements: https://www.berlin.de/corona/massnahmen/quarantaene/

Can I travel with a negative test result?

If you’re planning to travel, we advise you to check the requirements of the travel destination country. Unfortunately, these differ from country to country. As a result, we cannot guarantee that a negative test result will be enough to travel. You can find current requirements from the countries here.
Current information about requirements within Germany you can find here.

In most of the cases either our PCR-test or our antigen rapid test should be enough prove to travel to all countries.
